There are a lot of different types of curriculums available on the homeschool market today. Instead of simply trying them all until you find one that will work for you, it is a good idea to take a look at your child’s learning style. This will actually help you to find the right curriculum for your child in a much shorter time period than if you had tried another method.

Considering Learning Style

Take a good, close look at your child’s strengths. As a homeschool parent, you probably already know what subjects your child really enjoys and which ones he really needs some help with. These are some things that you should keep in mind as you begin to look at the way that your child learns the best.

Whenever you are looking at your child’s learning style, there are some questions that you should ask yourself. These include: Does your child learn best whenever they use workbooks? Create notebooks? Act out a story? Or do something else?

Questions like these will help you to reduce the amount of inappropriate curriculum that you purchase and thus save you money. However, if you are still uncertain about what curriculum will work best for your family, you can always go online and look for a “learning style test” via the Search Engines. This will help answer your questions about your child’s learning style and understand it better too.

Consider The Various Options

Take a look at all of the options that are available to you as a homeschooler. There are also a lot of different methodologies available as well. You will find everything from “school at home” to unschooling (very relaxed, child led learning). It is easy to find a list of these homeschool styles with descriptions of each online. Consider visiting different homeschool curriculum websites too. There you will find a variety of textbooks and curriculum packages to choose from. You will need to make sure that they will cover the learning requirements within your state. Also, keep in mind that a complete curriculum package will contain all of the materials that you will need for the whole school year.

When faced with the challenge of teaching a dyslexic child to read, many parents would opt to homeschool their child, which gives their child the advantage of focused instruction, at his own pace. For the novice in homeschooling, it may seem like a huge task to teach a child with learning disabilities, yet, those little breakthroughs on reading, writing and speaking are enough to encourage any parent to keep trying to help their child overcome their learning disabilities. Using a homeschool curriculum for dyslexia is the best help that a parent can have in dealing with a dyslexic child’s learning issues.

Dyslexic children often display difficulties in reading and hearing the differences in word sounds during their early years. Often, children with this kind of learning disability can not handle the connection between thought and language (thus difficulties in reading and writing occur). They cannot recognize sounds, and therefore, can not spell words nor connect a written word to an image that it represents.

Do not consider it a losing battle, however, if your child has been diagnosed to be dyslexic. Many of the world’s achievers started out with the same disadvantage, such as Churchill and even Einstein. It is possible to overcome this language learning disability through a specialized homeschool curriculum for dyslexia.

Most dyslexic children are observed to have short attention spans, especially on subjects that do not interest them. They are more akin to learning better using kinesthetic or interactive methods. Thus, language games are often incorporated into a homeschool curriculum for dyslexia in order to achieve learning at a faster pace.

One of the most used approaches for a homeschool curriculum for dyslexia is the Orten-Gillingham method, which makes use of the different senses. It is a systematic and sequential way of learning language which allows the student to recognize sound patterns associated with letters. The student is taught to recognize the different letter sounds, usually starting with the long and short vowel sounds. The different sounds of consonants are then introduced, until the child is finally able to start reading short three letter words. Repetition is an important aspect of this method, which can also be used to learn new vocabulary and various sentence structures.

Dyslexia affects children in varying ways. Some children only have a mild case of it, while others can be severely affected. This is why a homeschool curriculum for dyslexia is a better option in helping your child learn, rather than having your child go to a traditional school. You can customize the curriculum based on your child’s level of learning and according to what he or she needs to learn.

With several good homeschool curriculum developers nowadays, getting the right materials for your dyslexic child is a lot easier. There are also educational companies nowadays that offer organized homeschool programs for children with learning disabilities, that can easily be accessed online. These homeschool curriculum developers have been helping parents for many years now find better strategies to help their children read, which is a necessary skill that their children should develop to prepare them for life.

In the last two decades, more and more young people have been getting their education at home. The home schooling movement does not just include people from strict religious backgrounds, although they did help gain acceptance for this approach to education. Today, millions of students are beginning to complete their school requirements and are preparing for homeschool graduations.

Graduate from Home School

If you or your child has been taught at home, you need to prepare for graduation. Different states have different requirements for graduation. However, most states take a very hands-off approach to this method. That means the parents or the overseer of the education determines graduation. Students must meet the minimum requirements for graduation established by the state. Good records should be maintained.

In some cities, you can find home school graduate programs that allow students to go through a ceremony similar to that experienced by traditional graduates. The ceremonies are usually small and are sometimes held at local churches. If you’re part of a Homeschooling group, you can ask about these programs or you could even work together to form your own if a large number of students are nearing the end of their education.

Although standardized tests aren’t going to be required for the homeschool graduate to complete his or her basic studies, the ACT and/or SAT will be required if he or she plans to attend college. The good news is that most colleges and universities today are welcoming students who attended school at home with open arms. That’s because so many of them have been proven to be overachievers.

Mailing Announcements

Typically, you should start searching for graduation announcements prior to the completion of your child’s education. Of course, if there’s not going to be a specific ceremony, you can pick the home school stationery any time you desire. Most parents will wait until their child has completed the requirements, until the child has passed the ACT or SAT or until the child has been accepted to a college before mailing out the announcements. In these situations, the parents can help celebrate several pieces of good news for their child at the same time.

Remember to send the announcements to all of your friends and family members, even those people who did not necessarily agree with your decision to have homeschool graduations. If your family or child is active in church, in clubs or in other types of groups, be sure to send announcements to them as well. Leave off any type of gift registry details since presents are not required with any type of graduation. You don’t want any one to feel obligated.

If you are going to have a graduation party, choose to mail out invitations instead of announcements. Be sure to include RSVP information, too. You may also want to send out invitations if you are going to participate in one of the home school graduation ceremonies. Keep in mind that some people may not give homeschool graduations as much respect as traditional graduations but the important thing is to remember that you’ve worked hard to get where you are and are now ready to tackle the next big education challenge.

It might be a matter of surprise, but the fact is that more than 2 million children are home schooled in US alone. With its growth, many new changes have been introduced in the curriculum of homeschooling. Community colleges, organization and groups, retail stores have started providing discounts to the homeschooling children. Becoming a recognized education program, many families have started giving names to their home schools, although the strength might be as low as 2 children only. Thus giving your homeschool an official name is both fun and beneficial.

What’s more important is to let your children be a part in choosing a professional name for the homeschool. Hold a family meeting to decide the name for your homeschool. This would give them an edge over their thinking capability too.

The question that always pops up in the mind of students and parents of a homeschool is what the need of a name for the homeschool is. The reason is simple: a child’s confidence boosts up when he/she is asked the name of the school they are studying in. There they have an answer. It acts as a sense of identity for your kids. They can confidentially tell that they are studying in a homeschool that has a name.

Choosing a right name may be fun, but you need to be bit careful while selecting a meaningful name for your homeschool. There are a few ways through which you can choose a name for your homeschool.

The first way to choose a name can be based on your religious beliefs. Since many families believe that public schools conflicts their personal beliefs, hence they prefer choosing a religious name for their home run school.

Another most popular way to come up with a name is using your location. Location name is preferably chosen by public schools, hence you can opt a name for your homeschool like that. Location may include your town name or street name. For example Louisville Road Academy or Blue Oak Study program.

Family name can also be used to notify your homeschool. You can use your family tree and check out for the name of your ancestors whom you would like to honor. Don’t forget to add ‘academy’ or ‘school’ after it. Memorizing a family member or a hero can be great fun e.g. Roosevelt Memorial School.

Parents can contribute their creative thinking in choosing a name for their homeschool, based on their teaching style. Some examples would be School of Knowledge or Hands on Academy etc.

You can also decide a name by using something that interests you or your child. If you love nature, you can choose a name like Greenview School of Education

Homeschooling and public schooling co-exist successfully today! But one question that often comes in to the mind of parents when the time has come for educating their child is what to choose between homeschooling and public schooling? For parents who are doubtful in choosing the type of education for their children, it is better to know the pros and cons of both systems first.

The advantages of homeschooling over public schooling:

• Homeschooling provides individual attention and quality time to each learning student which is not possible in a public school. A parent can observe how their kids progress and can help them in areas they find difficult to cope.

• Homeschooling is more flexible than public schooling as the schedule can be adjusted to the child’s suitability. Flexibility also helps in changing the curriculum according to what is easy for you and your child. Parents can help children understand the subject matter and yield good results.

• Children are made to learn in a practical environment thereby involving them in a variety of situations. Children tend to learn faster and enjoy working in such situations.

• Another big advantage of homeschooling over public schooling is the cost structure. Homeschooling is comparatively less expensive as compared to public and private school fees. You can involve your child in social activities that can help them to develop their social skills and hence save a lot of money too.

• There is no age classification for homeschooling children; hence children not only get engaged with same age group but also with children of different ages and adults as well.

Such factors have induced many parents to opt for homeschooling but one should not forget the positive aspect of public schooling which a child lacks in home based schooling. The advantages of public schooling over homeschooling are:

• Public schooling provides social development of the child. Although a homeschooling child can be involved in social activities, none will be as effective as being a part of some social groups for years to come. The classroom setting provides the benefit of socializing for your child.

• The parent is left with the complete responsibility to educate the child during homeschooling. Thus, you might not get time for yourself and your job which is otherwise possible in public schooling. This also helps in reducing financial stress for parents who are both working.

• Public schooling has trained teachers who are well equipped with the knowledge of teaching a wide range of subjects. Homeschooling, on the other hand leaves no option but for the parent to understand each and every subject before making it easy for their child to learn. Moreover, the parents have to research and gather the curriculum for each of their child.

The egg drop experiment is one of the oldest and most beloved free homeschooling experiments. In fact, I can’t think of a student in the country who has not performed some variation of the egg drop experiment at least once in all his or her years of schooling. Therefore, this free homeschooling experiment is not only beneficial for everyone, but it’s fairly standard.

The egg drop experiment is perfect for students who are learning about gravity and about how materials interact with one another. The end goal of the experiment is for students to create packaging around an uncooked egg to ensure that the egg can be dropped from a height without breaking.

When you are homeschooling you don’t have to buy everything that you need. In fact you will be able to get most of the worksheets and other learning material online where you can print many of these for free.

There are plenty of places that you can get worksheets form all the subjects and for most of the grades. These can be found and downloaded some can be personalized and made just for you then printed. This is really helpful if you are making a test you can choose the questions and answer selections that you want. This can save you a lot of time that you can use for other things that will help your child excel in school.

When you are teaching your child to write there are many different variations of papers online that you can choose from some have clipart in them that the student will learn to print the letters with the cute paper. There are also sheets that you can learn to write numbers. The best part of printing these from online is that you can print and copy as many as you want and by you may go through quite a few of them before your child is real comfortable with writing. This is especially trued when you are looking for working sheets for print handwriting.

You don’t need to go buy expensive handwriting paper and then have to keep running to the store for more paper, look online first and see if you can find it there and print for just the cost of ink. Any search engine will show you a huge selection of choices to help your child learn.

More and more people are turning to homeschool, but is that the right choice for you? Maybe today you will find out if this is something you could do to better the lives of your children. There are so many resources out there that can answer just about any question you could possibly have and I will include a few to get you started later in this article. You may not realize just how many homeschoolers there are out there, let me tell you it is an astonishing number throughout the world. You may ask can I teach my child what he/she needs to learn, will they be able to go to college, and what about state laws?

No one can teach your child better than you, you know everything there is to know about your child, what they can learn, how they learn it, and when they learn it is totally up to you. Colleges love homeschoolers, they have found them to behave better and test scores are excellent. Homeschoolers take Sat’s, etc., just like any other student when it comes to college. There is a website for all those considering or curious, A to Z Homeschool’s Cool(just search for it at any search engine): here you can find answers to just about any question including state laws, and they also have articles about homeschool in the news.

Homeschoolers are making headlines everywhere, including National Spelling Bees, and the political convention going on right now!!! The Homeschool Crossing site posts activities & events in your area specifically designed for homeschoolers. Also a great place to start would be the Egroups site, check them out and join a group with families in your area. This is a great way to meet other families and find out about local happenings. I’m sure you’ve asked, What about books? What do I teach? A few to start with would be ABeka, Bob Jones, Alpha Omega, EPS, and Saxon Math. Also many sites on the internet offer discounts on homeschool textbooks, just search “discount Homeschool Textbooks” and you can find alot of sites for those on a budget who can’t afford to buy new.

Homeschooling can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like, it’s totally up to you. Whatever your decission, be confident in the fact that you have made the BEST choice for you and your children. Research everything possible through the internet, libraries or families you may know that homeschool. Below is a list of resources for you to use for your quest for knowledge of homeschooling.

Home Schooling Corner – This site has a LOT of topics, articles and for all those writers out there they have a writing corner where you can find companies accepting articles about homeschool.

Your options are endless, whether your a single mom or a family of 6,7,8…. you can homeschool and accomplish things you never dreamed possible. We live in a world today where it just make sense to teach our children good, decent values. They number of homeschoolers around the world is growing by leaps and bounds and I feel it will only keep growing and getting stronger each year. True this is only my opinion but if everyone would examine the facts and see how well our children are doing in every aspect of their lives and stop judging all those who choose to homeschool you may just be surprised what you uncover. Whatever your decision make sure it is best for everyone envolved and make every year a happy homeschooling year!! Good luck with your exciting adventure.
